Adidas Reversible Hogu Taekwondo Chestguard   Reviewed by : Trevor Higgs

The Adidas Reversible Hogu Taekwondo Chestguard is made of Foam rubber padding enclosed inside a vinyl shell. Red scoring zones on side, blue on the other. Straps go through loops on sides and tie in back to keep chestguard in place. WTF (World Taekwondo Federation) approved. I have and use this hogu when I spar and when I compete. I like it because while it is more expensive then the ProForce hogu (it is $44.95 compared to $29.95) I have found that it holds up better.

Macho Taekwondo Ribbed V-neck Uniform   Reviewed by : Martial Arts 101 Staff

This uniform is made of 7.2 oz high quality poly-cotton ribbed fabric, which breathes fairly well when you are wearing it. Six rows of stitching on all cuffs provide for durability, and the pants feature full length inseam panels which allow for ease fo high kicks. This is supposed to be the top of the line Macho uniform, I woudl spend the extra $10.00 and get the Adi-Champ uniform if you are looking for a good mid quality uniform.

ProForce Lightning Taekwondo Chestguard   Reviewed by : Trevor Higgs

While this chest guard can be used for all Martial Arts sparring, it is the official style of Taekwondo competition. It features a shock absorbent rubber body covered in vinyl for added resilience and durability. For a secure and comfortable fit the hogu has long, elastic shoulder straps which cross in back and tie through the side loops and has a Velcro fastener. Reversible with blue scoring circles on one side and red scoring circles on the other. At $29.95 it is much less then the Adidas chest guard and it will perform pretty much the same function. I have had both and the only issue that I have with the ProForce is that over time it seems to beak down with multiple washings faster then the Adidas one does.

ProForce Student Taekwondo Uniform   Reviewed by : Trevor Higgs

If you prefer a lightweight uniform, this 5oz. Ultra lightweight student uniform is the uniform for you. Made of top quality 55% cotton, 45% polyester blend material making this uniform comfortable and easy to care for. For summer practice I bought one of these and have found it serviceable. I find the pants are a little tight for kicking, but then that could just be me (I'm 6'5" and used to play college football- so my legs are a little bigger then average). At $19.95 they are not too expensive to give a try.

Century Taekwondo Competition Uniform   Reviewed by : Trevor Higgs

I have never used this uniform before and really no way of rating it- thus I am leaving it a "1". If you have used this product let me know. I will say that I am intrigued by the concept of 100% cotton and not a cotton/poly blend. It might breathe a little better then the poly blend. It costs $47.95 so absent of hearing from anyone, I am not buying it.

Macho Warrior Sparring Gear Set   Reviewed by : Trevor Higgs

This is Macho's High End Sparring gear. What separates it from the Rival set other then the price ($89.95 vs. $59.95) I don't really know. The set includes, Warrior Head Gear, Warrior Punch, Warrior Kick, Mouth Guard. So for the money, I would pick the Rival. So it gets a "1" for price to value ratio until someone can tell me differently.

Macho XP Series Shin Guard   Reviewed by : Trevor Higgs

The XP shin is a one-piece shin component that attaches to any Macho Kick for expanded coverage and protection to ankle and top of foot. It covers a greater area than other shin guards. Extra layer of foam underneath enhances fit, comfort and protection. I like it as much as I do the Adidas shin guard but it costs almost twice as much at $59.95 so it gets a 4

House Brand Cloth Forearm Guard   Reviewed by : Trevor Higgs

I used this pad when I played football in 4th grade and it really hasn't changed much in 25 years. Will it make the blow hurt less? Yes. Will it keep you from looking like an eggplant if you get hit hard? No. If you are just starting out and don't want to blow a lot of money because you are deciding if you like sparring then get this, it is $6.95 but I think you will be upgrading soon.

ProForce Lightning Forearm Guard   Reviewed by : Trevor Higgs

Made of 1/2 inches dipped foam, Lightning forearm guards provide double foam padding over the front of the forearm, where you need it most. The design of this product includes crescent moon cut-outs at the top and bottom of guard allowing for better mobility during usage. Well ventilated Guard covers front and sides of the forearm and is held in place by two Velcro closure straps. OK that is what the company says- and it is not a bad little pad, but to me I hate the feel of the vinyl against my skin and found that when I sweat it makes the pad slip. So it will protect well, if it stays in place. At $19.95, the Adidas costs less and is better in my opinion.
